Kota Kinabalu : 20th March 2010/ Saturday.
The need for basic amenities and infrastructure in Sukau receive attention from Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin during his three-day working visit in Sabah.
Sukau Assemblyman Saddi Abdul Rahman said Muhyiddin announced urgent projects for the people in Kinabatangan in the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) including Sukau."I am very pleased and that our Deputy Prime Minister has announced many vital projects to meet the people's need for basic facilities in Kinabatangan including my constituency, Sukau.
"Among the projects in Sukau are improving water supply namely building a water treatment plant in Sukau, installing network of water pipes from the water treatment plant in Kg Menggaris to Kg Perpaduan Batu Putih, Kg Perpaduan Datu Ogi and Sentosa Jaya.
"These will be followed by projects to install a network of pipes from the water treatment plant in Kg Menggaris to Kg Paris 1, Kg Paris II ang Kg Paris III, which i was made to understand will commence soon,"he said.
Saddi was in this instance particularly grateful as the residents there have not been enjoying clean water supply since Independence.Presently,he said the villagers depend on river water for bathing, washing and cooking.
On March 12, it was reported that Muhyiddin had annouced a special allocation of nearly RM90 million under the National Key Results (NKRA) to carry out socio-economy improvement projects in Kinabatangan.
Saddi said he is also happy that Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, is willing to consider constructing a new building for SMK Sukau which is long over-due."Based on records, the proposed construction of a new building for SMK Sukau was apporoved under the 8th Malaysia Plan but until now the students are still going to the school which is housed in a wooden building, which is dilapidated.
"We really hope that the decision to construct a new building for SMK Sukau-including its Primary school SK Sukau that is facing the same problem would be included as pressing projects in the area (Sukau)'he said.
Saddi also fully supported a proposal made by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on state land applications for the people in Kinabatangan through a new system called Communal Title- to give State land to the landless.
saddi said it is the only measure that could prevent the people from selling their land."By having this method, each landowner under the new system will toil the land that could generate income and improve their family's livelihood,'he said.
