RM200M BIODIVERSITY CITY IN PHASES

A new township- "Biodiversity City"- will be realized in phases here under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) t0 spur development and improve the socio-economy of the local people.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said about RM200 million would be spent for the project that will create jobs and business opportunities for the local community.


The state goverment approval this project because we see the needs and interest of the local people could be met, particularly in re-developing the economic landscape of Sukau." Hence, we arae delivering this project as gift to the local community, which is another proof of the commitment and dedication of the Barisan Nasional (BN) Government in bringing development here.


This is also in line with the Sabah development Corridor (SDC) to ensure no area or community in Sabah is left out from enjoying development, he said when perfoming the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sukau New Township saturday, Sabah Housing and Town Development Authority (SHDTA) is the main developer of the project, to be complemented by relevant government agencies and departments to provide the infrastructure and setup their respective offices.


During the event, Musa also presented 10 unit of 2,000 1 Malaysia computers to students of SMK Sukau. Musa belived the project would redevelop the Sukau economy, from depending on forest resourcec to new resources that could be the prime mover of the economy.


He also called on the local people to grab the opportunity uplift them from poverty. Musa, who is also State Finance Minister also announced a RM2 million allocation to build a mosque here, as requested by of Sukau Assemblyman Saddi Abd Rahman on the propsal to restructure local authorities, he said he would discuss the matter with the state Secrectary and the Local Goverment and Housing Ministry.


He was commenting on the proposal to relocate Kinabatangan District Office in Bukit Garam to the new township upon its completion, to enable the people here to do their official matters as some villages in Sukau are under the jurisdiction of Kinabatangan District Office and other Under Sandakan Municipal Council.


Meanwhile, Saddi said in his speech that development of the Sukau New Township was timely. The project would be set up on 104- acre site that has been approved by the State Government, which will provide huge opportunities to the local community and will entirely change the economic landscape here.


The concept of the project is based on Boidiverity landscape that is systematic and modern which will attract more 35000 foreign tourists here every year, he said. Saddi said the project would not only enhance socio-economic activities but also prevent migration of the local people, particularly youths, to the state Capital and other districts.


It will also encourage local and foreign investors to provide new opportunities through setting up of value-added and medium-size industries, he added. Also present were Local Government and Housing Assistant Ministar datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar, special Advisor of Science and Technology Datuk Salleh Tun Said, State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker datuk Jonny Mositun, Gum-gum Assemblyn Datuk Zakaria Edris, Kuamut Assemblyn Mansiung Banak, Sabah Housing and town development Authority General Manager Jenar Lamdah and Kinabatangan District Officer Abdul Latiff Kandok.
